Clothing & Other Items to Bring
The climate is warm and humid almost all of the time. It rains often. However, it is usually sunny between showers, so it is not depressing. It makes sense to bring an umbrella. You will probably find a rain coat to be too warm. Dress is casual. Nice shorts and T-shirts are fine, but students are reminded that they are in a professional atmosphere and need to dress accordingly. One nice outfit should be packed for the rare special events that take place, such as the 5th semester
banquet. It will be necessary to have a nice outfit for the 4th and 5th semester clinical experience. The classrooms and library are air-conditioned and can get cold, very cold. Bring a sweater or sweatshirt. Our inability to control the temperature of these places is slightly embarrassing. Bring a good pair of athletic shoes and/or hiking boots. Dominica is beautiful and needs to be seen on foot. As for other items you may need to bring. The advice provided by our New York
office is is written by people who have not been here for a while. Ant traps? You can buy them in Dominica, but you don't need them. Ants serve a purpose. They tell you when your kitchen is dirty. Almost all housing has good screens, you do not want to bring mosquito netting. A flashlight is a good idea. You may wish to bring towels and bedding, but they can be purchased in Portsmouth. The variety of food items available in Dominica has increased dramatically in recent years. You may have special items you will wish to bring, but you can wait to see what you need. And, well, it isn't something you need to bring, but don't
expect the power to go out every night. |
